Bio-based economy in the Rhenish mining area

The economy in the Rhenish mining area is multifaceted. Focal points can be found, for example, in the areas of food, paper, chemicals and plastics, as well as in the textile industry. In the food sector in particular, there is already a bio-based economy, founded on a regionally strong agricultural sector. The goal is to build on these strengths and establish further sustainable value chains. This means, above all, linking a wide variety of companies away from their traditional networks.
This is the task of the coordination office BioökonomieREVIER. It offers suitable networking formats, identifies needs and challenges, and develops new techniques from research. Lighthouse projects for the rapid implementation of ideas from science into practical economic application are 15 so-called "innovation labs", which are accompanied by the coordination office. The bioeconomy is an opportunity for companies of all kinds. Besides the big players in industry, small and medium-sized companies in particular can benefit.
